A stock origin is a company or group of companies that can supply a product. Say you've got 3 or 4 suppliers that you can order products from, you'd create them as an "Origin". Each of their warehouses would then be created as a Location so that the stock system can locate stock easily.
There is very little to an Origin other than a name that is used as a label.
